Internet Safety Day 18th March 2024

We have just concluded an informative and exciting day of Internet Safety workshops.

The New Hinksey School Association kindly funded the day of workshops provided by OpenView Education.

E-Safety Wizards

This workshop was for the Puffins and Owls who learned about online safety through different drama activities. The objectives were to

  • understand how people can be unkind online. I can explain how this might make people feel
  • understand and can explain ways that I can behave in a positive way online. (Keeping information safe)
  • identify what to do and who I can speak to if I experience something that makes me feel worried online.

One Good Choice

This workshop was for the Doves class who learned

  • to describe how to capture bullying content as evidence (e.g screen-grab, URL, profile) to share with others who can help me.
  • to give examples of how bullying behaviour could appear online and how someone can get support.
  • to explain how someone can get help if they are receiving unwanted messages in an online game and identify when to tell a trusted adult.
  • to identify examples of personal information and describe strategies for keeping it safe and private.

Power to Choose

The Year 5 and 6 children were split into two workshops. Their drama skills certainly came in handy as they were acting out different scenarios.

They learned:

  • to identify a range of ways to report concerns and access support both in school and at home about online bullying.
  • how to block abusive users.
  • to describe the helpline services which can help people experiencing bullying, and how to access them (e.g. Childline).
  • to describe how to capture bullying content as evidence (e.g screen-grab, URL, profile) to share with others who can help me.
